{"id":60,"date":"2017-07-27T13:34:42","date_gmt":"2017-07-27T13:34:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lynthornealder.com\/sidequest\/?p=60"},"modified":"2017-07-27T13:34:42","modified_gmt":"2017-07-27T13:34:42","slug":"twelve-watch-what-you-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.lynthornealder.com\/sidequest\/2017\/07\/27\/twelve-watch-what-you-say\/","title":{"rendered":"Twelve: Watch What You Say"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The man who might or might not b the Diamond Raven struggled, but he couldn\u2019t seem to do anything about the cord around his neck and, rather than have Raizel tug it tighter, he followed her. \u00a0\u201cI have things I should get-\u201d he protested, but she didn\u2019t listen, and then \u201cI shouldn\u2019t leave a candle burning-\u201d and then \u201csomeone needs to watch the sacred spot.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSomeone does,\u201d she agrees. \u00a0\u201cBut having it be you might be a bit silly.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAnd why would it be silly for it to be me?\u201d \u00a0He raised his eyebrows at her in challenge. <\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was, she had to admit, not all that intimidating. \u00a0He was barely taller than her, skinny in that sort of way that suggested he\u2019d missed a few meals lately, his black hair in need of a wash and his skin sallow, like he hadn\u2019t been outside in a while. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWell, there\u2019s the whole issue &#8211; perhaps, or as I\u2019ve \u00a0heard it said,\u201d she allowed, \u201cof the relationship between you and Nadya. \u00a0Or the fact that she\u2019s willing to recruit people to move you.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThere\u2019s a relationship between her and I, or there was, when we were young. \u00a0She used to love this place. \u00a0Now she wants to destroy it.\u201d \u00a0The probably-the-Raven gave one last longing looking at the chapel. \u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s a sacred place, still, you know, even here in the city.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThere\u2019s a relationship between her and I, or there was, when we were young. \u00a0She used to love this place. \u00a0Now she wants to destroy it.\u201d \u00a0The probably-the-Raven gave one last longing looking at the chapel. \u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s a sacred place, still, you know, even here in the city.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI will talk to her, if we can find her.\u201d \u00a0She glanced over at her captive. \u00a0\u201cWhy \u2018Diamond Raven,\u2019 anyway?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He flushed and tugged at the lasso in a half-hearted attempt to get away. \u00a0\u201cI don\u2019t see what that has to do with anything.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cEverything has to do with something, and if it\u2019s a name you chose yourself, it has to do with so many things. \u00a0Diamond Raven.\u201d \u00a0She tested the name. \u00a0\u201cShiny, glittery, thieving? \u00a0You steal yourself?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He stopped tugging on the rope and frowned at her. \u00a0\u201cNadya told you.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cNadya doesn\u2019t know, does she? \u00a0Why you call yourself that, that is. \u00a0She knows it\u2019s your name.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cNadya should know. \u00a0We were children together. \u00a0We were lovers when we were teens. \u00a0We were going to be wed.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMany people are going to be wed when they are teens.\u201d \u00a0She hated herself for saying it. \u00a0How many times had she and Amos and Emma talked about it? \u00a0Even if their families might not allow it, even if <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">her<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> family might not allow it. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cYou can\u2019t let her take the chapel! \u00a0The gods need it!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIf the gods need it, perhaps they ought-\u201d Raizel stopped herself, but it was too late. \u00a0She\u2019d said the words she knew better than to say. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Diamond Raven stared at her. \u00a0\u201cWho are you?\u201d he asked into the glittering, sparkling air. \u00a0\u201cWhat are you?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMe? \u00a0I\u2019m a mountain child going to the capital to pay the taxes and file the census paperwork. \u00a0Nadya po\u2019renz Ettera of Esteronzerai-and-Ettereteret paid me &#8211; no. \u00a0Offered me my name in stone for all to see if I got you out of here, if I tied you up. \u00a0And I have some skill with tying people up.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAnd it\u2019s a sacred site! \u00a0An old site, even if they have moved on, the people, the &#8211;
