The thing was, she was both the tale-teller and the story.  She was both the portrait and the model.  She was the song and its subject.

There were theories about that, of course: theories and theses and stories and myths.  Stories have a lot of power, after all.

And storytellers have a power, a mystery, all of their own.

Pull It – a story for Patreon

“Come to the movies with me.”

See, that’s the thing:  It’s the lever on a Rube Goldberg machine, and you have to see the lever, pull the lever, and then not catch the cat before it eats the mouse six steps later. 

“No money.”  I was between jobs, between lovers, between misery and apathy.  I didn’t really want to move at all. “No interest, sorry.”
