A Request!

My friends,

Today I am going to ask you to talk about me (and then, in fairness, I am going to offer to talk about you).

By this point, all 70-some people who subscribe to this blog know about Edally; you know about MARKED; you know about Addergoole and you know about my Patreon.

(You probably also know about Lady Taisiya’s Fourth Husband, Desmond’s Climb, the Beekeeper, and my sporadic crossover fanfic, about Dragons Next Door, Aunt Family, the Space Accountant and Things Unknown… I could go on all day).

But I would like more people to know about all of those things, and not just because I like meeting new people.

More traffic means more chance for ads, for one — Edally is still under the Project Wonderful traffic threshold. It means more Patreon patrons (which, for those of you supporting me on Patreon, means more content for everyone). More feedback — and we all know I love comments. (You knew I loved comments, right?)

So what can you do?

Tell your friends! (Tell your families, tell the people on the street… okay, I’m getting carried away). If you have a story you love, post a link to it. Liking Edally and/or MARKED? Tell people that!

Post a review! All four of my serials are available on Web Fiction Guide for review: here and MARKED should be up soon.

Post a banner! People like shiny things, maybe they’ll click on a link from a shiny banner?

Talk about the stories! Heck, I’ve gotten more than a few readers just talking about Addergoole on Twitter.

Write fanfic! Or make fan art!

Think hard about my stories in places where telepaths might pick up your brain waves. Don’t wear an EMF-protecting hat while you do so.

For any and all of this you do, I thank you.

Now, the reciprocal part: Me talking about you.

Do you have a project you want highlighted (yours, or someone else’s)? Let me know! Let me know where I can read it, what the best link is. Link me to a graphic, if one exists!

And I’ll plug, review, share, talk it up.

Cheers,

Lyn

Cetus had stopped struggling when one of them got an arm around his throat.

Before that point, he was pretty sure he’d broken someone’s ribs and someone else’s nose; dislocated three fingers on a grabbing hand and pulled out two handfuls of hair. He’d also twisted his own ankle and sprained his wrist, as well as getting a nasty gash on his forehead, but that was nothing. He’d done worse to himself falling down stairs, when he went through his clumsy phase.

Setting Meme

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.jsI was playing around with my friends on Twitter (thinking about Month of Letters) and this came up.

So: If I wrote a setting just for you, what would it look like?

MARKED – Lorque is very chatty, isn’t she.

MARKED – 1.12

“A tour?” That had been on the agenda, hadn’t it been? “Could we rest for a minute, first? I know sitting on a train isn’t that exhausting, but I would like to sit on something not moving for a moment.” Nilien sat down on the edge of her bed. “What is it like here?”
“Well, if I gave you a tour…” …

MARKED – Enough about attempted murder…

MARKED – 1.11

“Well, if nobody wants you dead, maybe someone wanted you to be a Rune?” Lorque offered, and then immediately shook her head. “No, that’s insane. Nobody would do that, would they? So if nobody you know of wants you dead, it must be someone you don’t know of. Someone from your family, maybe? …

MARKED – 1.10

“I don’t remember all of it,” Nilien admitted. Lorque was watching her and not the path in front of them, but it didn’t seem to be endangering her at all. “I woke up in the infirmary, and the fox was there with me.”

You wanted to live, the fox reminded her.

Nilien smiled wanly at her familar…

January By the Numbers Ten: Busy bees buzzing brightly (fiction Piece)

January by the numbers continues (still a day off~)!
From [personal profile] clare_dragonfly‘s prompt “Busy bees buzzing brightly, bearing beauteous bouquets.;” a ficlet
.

“The hive’s alight tonight.” Oshen stared at the office building, bright with lights in the middle of the night. From their vantage point, three buildings over, the people moving around looked like ants — or maybe bees — insects anyway, buzzing around, bopping here and there in what looked like a random pattern. “Who do you think kicked it?”

“It doesn’t look that much like a hive,” Nensho complained. “I mean, okay, it’s sort of got that shape, but—”

“But it’s full of worker bees, moving here and there, doing whatever their little Queen Bee tells them. Except for Eidercorp, it’s not a Queen Bee, is it? It’s a King Bee. Unnatural.” Oshen grinned, liking the taste of the word. “Unnatural. Against the natural order of things. Counter to the way things are supposed to be.”

“Easy now,” Nensho chided. “You’re doing that thing where you get carried away again and then you start believing your own propaganda. Don’t forget that thing last year with Tenor, Inc. It ended up being a big mess, and all because you got caught up in your alliteration and allegory.”

“There was some onomatopoeia, too,” Oshen complained. “And maybe some rhyme.”

“Either way, every way, anyway, just don’t. We have a goal, no?”

“We have a goal, now.”

“Good. So, let’s get to the goal.” Nensho stared at Eidercorp through high-powered binoculars. “All right, they’re clearly up to something. I can’t tell quite what from here but it looks a little bit like a dance, doesn’t it?”

“What, they’re telling the King Bee where the honey is? That seems a little too literal when they’re working off of my metaphor,” Oshen complained.

“No.” Nensho frowned. “It looks like they’re taking bouquets to the CFO. All of them. Everyone in the company.”

“…And you say I get carried away.”

Marked: Nilien has a new roommate~

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.jsMARKED 1.8

The station wasn’t yet in sight, but it was nearing; the train was slowing and the grade as it climbed up into the mountains was flattening out. Nilien held the fox a little closer to her as she watched the terrain.

Devier looked at her sympathetically. “We’ll be to the train station in just a few minutes. What a grand opportunity this is for you, and born out of such trouble.”

“It is quite an opportunity,” Nilien agreed slowly.

“Marked” continues, with a new development!

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.jsNilien patted at her hair uselessly. “Please, let them in. I don’t know when I’ll get to see them again.” The last was almost as much to the fox as it was to Nurse Abercom.

You do not have to explain to me. The fox turned around a couple times before settling back down, looking over its tail at the doorway. I would like to meet your friends. Friends can tell one quite a bit about someone, you know.

Patreon News and a story – “Take the Sky”

I’ve redone the milestones and the donation tiers. There’s several new donation tiers at $3, $7, $10, and $15/month, including a peek into my trunk, a rifle through my recipe box, and access to my map case.

The milestones have changed to reflect the new tiers, too; the higher we get, the more recipes, the more trunk stories, the more maps you’ll get. I’m excited about the changes! I think it’ll be fun to broaden out the content here.

I hope you enjoyed the Christmas reposts. I think I’m going to try something like that – not every month, but when I can come up with a reasonable holiday theme. I’ve got content going back past 2008; even I’ve forgotten stuff from that long ago 🙂

This story was written for the November “Catgirls and other animal people” theme.

Ashana stalked through the world, her big boots soundless but her stride seeming to suggest thunder, windstorms, danger; her leather jacket belted around her like armor, like a warning sign; her knives hidden but her sharp edges no less visible.

She scowled at the world, a quirked eyebrow the only threat she needed to make most of the time: wanna make something of it? Most people were wiser than to try.
