State of the Lyn!

Whee.

First, a passing musing: I am often fascinated by the new meanings typos give things, or, if not typos, my own misreading of things. Sometimes it seems I am alone in this; am I?

The HouseBuying continues to move at a pace but not apace. The USDA going on sudden retreat (not running away, the other sort) has delayed us an indefinite time around but not certainly 2 weeks.

This past Saturday, T. and I went to the Cortland Arts and Wine Festival (and got an estimate on the giraffe carpet, also in Cortland(*))… loads of fun, as it always is. Drank lots and lots of wine, bought a little, giggled a lot(**).

I don’t actually know what we’re doing this weekend. Perhaps garage/freesale-ing. Writing, I’m sure. Rest. Rest would be nice.

(*) About an hour north and east of our apartment.
(**) I giggled. T. does not giggle.

There’s a Pawnshop on the Corner, Where I keep my Overcoat…

‘Scuse the digression.

There’s a farmstand on the corner where my lunch-walk passes by…

So yesterday I picked up a zuke, some fresh corn, and a pepper, and for dinner, we had tempura’d tilapia, zucchini, and yam, with fresh sweet corn on the side. Delicious!

This was a bit accidental – I picked up plain seltzer the other day, thinking that Alton Brown’s pancake recipe called for it. (It doesn’t. His waffle recipe is still delicious). After some searching we determined that it was his tempura recipe… so we made tempura. A nice accident.

House Progress

Today, we purchased the carpet for the room we plan to hardwood within 6 months to a year. *rolls eyes at appraiser*

The woodwork has been painted (us); the handrails have been installed (seller). The furnaces and septic will be inspected this week (seller).

Almost there!!

Instant Karma moment of awesome

This weekend, T. and I were hiking down at Taughannock Falls State Park, as we are wont to do. We’d frozen half a water bottle full of water, as we are also wont to do, and then poured in water to fill, but this time, the half-liter of water really wasn’t enough for the day, and I was carrying around a half-liter of ice and wishing it to melt faster.

We’re in the habit of picking up a few piece of litter every time we go out walking, so I wasn’t thinking about it when I bent down to pick up the bottle of Poland Springs floating in the creek.

The entirely sealed, full, new bottle of Poland Springs Water.

Sometimes life is just fun.

House Foo :-)

Yesterday (note: while the Finger Lakes of NYS are buffered by being, a, surrounded by water and b, northerly, the heat wave the US is experiencing did push the high into the 90’s yesterday), Spouse!man and I scraped, sanded, and painted three window frames, a utility door, and the front door frame on the-house-that-isn’t-quite-ours-yet.

We’re on the final lap, I think; we’re handling things that have to be corrected for the mortgage to be approved: rug (argh), boiler issues, paint, and handrails. And then we get to start the REAL fixing up!

It’s going to reach 100 today. I may put off that walk.

State of the Lyn!

We’re this close to closing on the house, though this close seems to be a sort of half-life thing: we keep getting closer, and are still this close.

Summer is warrrrrm, but not nearly what my southerly friends are experiencing, so I won’t complain.

Mellow weekends lately; pricing appliances (the stove we want does not exist. Negotiating second choice) and watching movies (neither Green Lantern nor Transformers sucked. Could we see something that has more than that to recommend to it now?)

Knitting for family small-people went over well…

Fishies! For Baby Cousin!

And weight loss seems to be stalling on me. Rrg. OTOH, I’m getting lots and lots of walking in! 🙂

SOoooo excited about the house *bounce!*

Lyn’s Life!

* Weekend before last we have a dinner I keep thinking of as Absent Friends dinner, and keep meaning to share – a soup mix from [personal profile] eseme, which she brought on her last visit, with pork shanks from our last visit to E.Mc & Abjuk, and a cake from a recipe book from @theladyisugly. Nom! Dinner is better with friends.

* Appraisal on should-be-our-house-soon is Friday afternoon. Cross your digits for us!

* Saw Baby Cousins this weekend. Boy, at 2 years, is getting verbal, Baby Girl, at 6 months, is pugdy and adorable.

Random pondering

Looking at other people’s icons, pondering my own.

I seem to have, generally, icons for a theme, icons for a story/character/setting, and icons that mean me. Other people seem to have “mood” icons. I wonder why I don’t?

Soundtrack dissonance

I was walking through the neighboring-business’s parking lot as a car drove by, thudding base and a hip-hop sound pounding almost in time to my footsteps.

The neighboring businessman comes out and says “I saw you walking by and heard the music, and thought, ‘if this was a movie, that soundtrack would be incongruous.”

Awesome.
