Countdown to Addergoole Year 9: Garfunkle!

52 35 Days To 52 Weeks

For the 52 days leading up to the 52 weeks of Addergoole: Year 9, I will be posting something Addergoole-related (almost) every day.

Today I present to you Garfunkle!

Garfunkle has appeared in Trojan Gift, Prickly, and In the Infirmary.

Gar is a solemn-faced teen of primarily Irish ancestry before his change, with pale ginger hair and dark blue-green eyes, a complexion prone to freckling and a very stubborn chin. He stands about 5’10” tall, with a bit of muscle on him, just enough to avoid being lanky or lean; he’s been trying to bulk out. He’ll have a nice chest and six-pack if he ever works for it. He keeps his hair cut very short to avoid the curl, and hasn’t started to grow in real facial hair yet.

He’s prone to wearing a hoodie over sarcastic-saying T-shirts and whatever jeans appear to fit; he wears combat boots unlaced and likes to wear a baseball cap when he’s not wearing a hoodie (and sometimes when he is).

Ask him anything!

The first seven question-and-answer sessions are still open as well:
Cynara
Noam
Reid Solomon & DJ
43 to go: Jeremiah and Lolly (LJ)
45 to Go: Timora (LJ)
46 to Go: Porter (LJ)
47 to go: Wylie (LJ)

Gar has never been what you’d call popular. He’s always had a couple friends, but his temper, a long-fuse-hot-explosion sort, has gotten him in trouble in more than one school and lost him more than a few friends. Never athletic, he took to the karate lessons his parents enrolled hm in like a fish to water but, despite their wishes, the martial art didn’t teach him to control his anger, just gave him further destructive force.

He’s good at classes without trying, an A student who tests and acts like a B-and-C student; he gets bored easily, and gets irritated even more easily. His teachers often came with pre-conceptions about him, which made them treat him like a troublemaker… which made him get angry, which made him make trouble. At the end of his last year of “normal” school, he’d just gotten kicked out for the third time. He assumes he’s being sent to Addergoole because his family’s run out of local schools to send him to and his dad’s not the type to go for military school.

He has one younger sibling he assumes is a while-sibling, but, then again, he thinks his stepmother is his mother. Fairuza will come to school three years after her brother. He is protective of Fairuza if she’s in trouble, but for the most part, doesn’t want much to do with her and ignores her and her girly friends. However, his temper has never exploded on her – or, until he comes to Addergoole, on any woman or girl.

He’s a solemn-faced teen of primarily Irish ancestry before his change, with pale ginger hair and dark blue-green eyes, a complexion prone to freckling and a very stubborn chin.

His Change gives him a couple inches in the shoulders, chest, hips, arms, and thighs, making him a bit more solid. More importantly, it adds rocky plates to his arms and legs, a long ridge of the same rock above each ear, curving back down to meet in the back over his spine, and give him the ability to shoot off crags of the same red stone when he’s angry or threatened. He is not particularly a good candidate for, say, attacking in a hallway.

Unsurprisingly, he’s awesome at Eperu. He’s pretty good at Kwxe, decent at Panida and all right at Huamu. He rocks at Idu (ha), is pretty good at Buli, and is passable at Abutu and Jasfe. He will never master Tuapeka or Hugr, and will only be halfway decent at Masking.

Countdown to Addergoole: What is Addergoole?

What is Addergoole?

Good question!

Addergoole is the title of two web serialized stories, the completed Addergoole set in the 5th year of the school, and the upcoming Addergoole Year Nine, set in, yes, the 9th year of the school with all-new characters.

A boarding school unlike any other, Addergoole is a story containing dark contemporary fantasy, with kink and sexual subtext, magic, violence, and a dystopian school. The incoming Ninth Cohort enters the school knowing nothing about the world they’re being plunged into. Come learn with them.

The school is also Addergoole: an underground complex three stories deep, with secrets down every hallway. Hidden under the South Dakota wheatfields, the Addergoole School is invitation-only, and invitations go only to students who are already, all unknowing, part of the Addergoole Project.

The Addergoole Project is School Director Regine Avonmorea’s pet project, a century-spanning plan that underlies everything that happens in the school, named after the Addergoole Parish in Ireland (Regine explains why here). Not even her inner circle know every twist and turn of this plan.

The Ninth Cohort will step into Addergoole in 37 days! In the meantime, enjoy the countdown, read other things tagged “Addergoole,” go back to the July Giraffe Call and ask for more story, or ask the characters questions. We’ll all be waiting with you!

Countdown to Addergoole Year Nine: Cynara

52 38 Days To 52 Weeks

For the 52 days leading up to the 52 weeks of Addergoole: Year 9, I will be posting something Addergoole-related (almost) every day.

Today I present to you Cynara, Red Doomsday.

Cya has appeared in a number of stories, after beginning life as a roleplay character (as did several others, including Eris, Mark, and Kylie from Year 5, and Leofric, Howard, Zita, and Fran in Year 6…). My favorite pieces involving Cya were written by [personal profile] inventrix, here and here…and this piece by cluudle

Art of her by Inventrix is available here.

Cynara is a slender girl with some curve to her, a generous smile, freckles over most of her body, stunning green eyes and dark brown hair dyed red on top. The only child raised by a security-expert father, she spent much of her childhood moving from place to place. She’s known by the end of her first year at Addergoole (Kept by the vampire, Dysmas), for her obsession with planning ahead. By the time her children come to Addergoole, years after the apocalypse, she’s also know for collecting new Kept.

I encourage you to pester her with questions! Ask her anything!!

The first six question-and-answer sessions are still open as well:
Noam
Reid Solomon & DJ
43 to go: Jeremiah and Lolly (LJ)
45 to Go: Timora (LJ)
46 to Go: Porter (LJ)
47 to go: Wylie (LJ)

Countdown to Addergoole Year Nine: Noam

52 41, 40, 39 Days To 52 Weeks

For the 52 days leading up to the 52 weeks of Addergoole: Year 9, I will be posting something Addergoole-related (almost) every day.

Today I present (ha) to you Noam.

Noam has appeared in Birthday Present, Presented, and Presently..

Art of him by Inventrix is available Here.

Noam is a hide-in-shadows sort of guy, a personality made difficult by the fact that he was pretty to start with and his Change, a butterfly-related mostly-skin-coloring alteration, only made him prettier. He’s a quiet, shy loner with cornsilk-blonde hair and gorgeous grey-green eyes, who really wants to be left alone.

I encourage you to pester him with questions! Ask him anything!!

The first five question-and-answer sessions are still open as well:
Reid Solomon & DJ
43 to go: Jeremiah and Lolly (LJ)
45 to Go: Timora (LJ)
46 to Go: Porter (LJ)
47 to go: Wylie (LJ)

Three Vignettes of Addergoole Year 9 characters

52 41 Days To 52 Weeks

For the 52 days leading up to the 52 weeks of Addergoole: Year 9, I will be posting something Addergoole-related every day.

I needed something relaxing, so I asked for three things to write relaxing scenes of. Here we go!

These happen sequentially after years 6, 7, and 8 of the Addergoole school, with a 6th, 7th, and 8th-Cohort viewpoint character.

“They’re beautiful.”

Abaddon’s smile was giddy, wide enough to stretch his face. His bone spurs, large and prominent when he was angry, had shrunk to tiny nubs of horns on his forehead. And there was color in his cheeks.

He turned his smile on Channing, who, sweaty, exhausted, and flushed, had spent the last twelve hours in labor. “You’re beautiful.”

“You’re stoned.” She was willing to smile back at him, though. That was a good sign. “They, on the other hand, are perfect. Are you ready to name them?”

“I… ack.” He handed the girl back to her hurriedly. “No?”

“Try to stay visible.” Jermiah’s whisper was barely audible, tall as he was. Zipporah nodded, but felt no need to say anything else.

“And stay close, please. We don’t know if…”

Now she frowned at him. He had gone from protective to over-protective once again.

“I know. But it’s a public place, Zip. And people are strange.”

People were, indeed, strange. She nodded at him, letting that suffice, and popped her parasol.

He wanted her to stay visible. But that didn’t mean she had to be noticeable. She settled onto her blanket and pulled the world up around her.

“Lean back, love. You want this done properly, don’t you?”

“Yes, ma’am.” Phillipa grinned at her Mentor, not minding twitting her a little bit. “Are you sure…?”

“I’ve Worked a protect and preserve; your thorns aren’t going to hurt me. When’s the last time someone’s done this for you?”

“Over a year ago?” She sighed happily as the warm water washed over her scalp. “The girls who run the salon won’t, and I don’t blame them.”

“But I will.” Laurel massaged her scalp, working the shampoo through Phillipa’s long hair, ignoring the vines and thorns. “So relax, and let me.”

Countdown to Addergoole Year 9: Reid Solomon

52 42 Days To 52 Weeks

For the 52 days leading up to the 52 weeks of Addergoole: Year 9, I will be posting something Addergoole-related every day.

Today I present to you Professor Reid Solomon.

The skinny professor looks like exactly what he is: a former NASA rocket scientist, complete with coke-bottle glasses and short-sleeved button-down shirt. He’s lanky, with dark, curly hair that probably should have gone grey by now.

He appears many places throughout Addergoole, as he is the Math Professor and several people’s Mentor as well

And, today, if you would like to ask Professor Solomon any question, at any point up to the beginning of Year Nine, please feel free!

Bonus: I also present DJ, Ty’s parent.

The hermaphroditic villager is a cornerstone of the greater community, acting as purchasing agent as well as, along with Maureen, moving among the greater community, finding parents to foster children as well as parents to /parent/ children.

The first four question-and-answer sessions are still open as well:
43 to go: Jeremiah and Lolly (LJ)
45 to Go: Timora (LJ)
46 to Go: Porter (LJ)
47 to go: Wylie (LJ)

Countdown to Addergoole Year 9: Lolly and the Prophet

52 43 Days To 52 Weeks

For the 52 days leading up to the 52 weeks of Addergoole: Year 9, I will be posting something Addergoole-related every day.

Today I present to you Jeremiah the Prophet and Liliandra-called-Lolly!

Jeremiah cy’Pelletier is a Seventh-Cohort student; he spent his first year in Addergoole Owned by Rowan, the dryad-like Fourth Cohort. He’s often likened to a scarecrow – at 6’7″ tall and bone-thin, with a messy tousle of brown hair at the top, the resemblance is clear.

He has been called the Prophet since his first year in school; he is rumored to have cryptic visions, although some think the moniker was just a pun on his given name. Preferring secrecy, as does his entire crew, he doesn’t answer many questions about the nickname.

With him today is Liliandra cy’Linden, called Lolly. She bears a resemblance to this the porn star Loli Feder, although her nickname comes from her fondness for outfits like this (image, safe): she’s a tiny blonde girl in dollish clothing, with long dollish blonde curls and an occasionally far-too-childish set of behaviours. Jeremiah has been Keeping her since several weeks into her first year – Lolly is an 8th Cohort student.

The two originally appeared in Three-Way and Duet.

And, today, if you would like to ask Jeremiah or Lolly any question, at any point up to the end of Duet, feel free!

The first three question-and-answer sessions are still open as well:
45 to Go: Timora (LJ)
46 to Go: Porter (LJ)
47 to go: Wylie (LJ)

Countdown to Addergoole Year 9: Character Development Meme

52 44 Days To 52 Weeks

For the 52 days leading up to the 52 weeks of Addergoole: Year 9, I will be posting something Addergoole-related every day.

Today: parts of a character development meme!

Wylie
1.) Describe your character’s relationship with their mother or their father, or both. Was it good? Bad? Were they spoiled rotten, ignored? Do they still get along now, or no?

Wylie lived with a man who was, biologically, his mother, and the woman who foster-mothered him. He believes them to be his mom and dad and has never met his biological father (nor do I think they’d get along).

He had a decent childhood and grew up generally happy – not spoiled and not rich, but not starved or neglected and not poor, either. His parents provided more discipline than he thought was appropriate, trying to tame his unruliness and trying to prepare him to be sent away. Neither worked well, but the practice will serve him well in the long term.

His foster-mother has always treated him as her own, and raised him with his older sister Kendra and his baby sister (who will be in Addergoole Year 12 or 13) as a family. As far as she’s concerned, he’s family. His “father” has always been a bit confused by him – he feels he’s a bit of a cuckoo’s egg, distractible and hyperactive where Cedric is level-headed and straightforward – but has done his best to love him and parent him properly despite that.

One week into Addergoole, they’ve gotten Wylie’s hastily-scribbled postcard, mailed off a care package, and aren’t sure if they should be worried or not.

Timora
2.) What are your characters most prominent physical features?

Before the Change, Timora’s long dishwater-blonde hair and her coltish long legs counted as her most prominent features, although she almost always hid her legs behind long Little-House-on-the-Prairie skirts.

After her Change, her hooves and tail are likely more prominent, although she maintains the hair (just blue now) and the very nice legs.

Noam
3.) Name one scar your character has, and tell us where it came from. If they don’t have any, is there a reason?

Most of Noam’s small scars were erased by the Change; the butterfly markings across his torso and face actually altered his skin, bringing it back to baby-smoothness while they covered it with brilliant patterns.

Noam was more than a bit of a nerd in his old school, but he had the not-entirely-uncommon distinction of being an attractive nerd. He was never a sports-team joiner, or really much of any sort of joiner, but he and some of his friends in school did play back yard football or whatever other excuse to run around in the mud.

Thus, he has his share of small scars – the dime-sized scar on his thigh where his friend Max Fralick accidentally stabbed him with a piece of wood, the long slice mark across his forearm where he fell in a junkyard, the three burn marks on his shoulder from a mishap with a model rocket.

Of all the things the Change wrought in him, he dislikes the loss of that scar the most.

Countdown to Addergoole Year 9: Timora

52 45 Days To 52 Weeks

For the 52 days leading up to the 52 weeks of Addergoole: Year 9, I will be posting something Addergoole-related every day.

Today I present to you Timora!

Timora is a shy, uncertain girl who reached her height (5 foot 7 inches) quickly and the rest of her growth more slowly, making her awkward and uncertain around her classmates. Added to a generally retiring nature – in a family full of loud and boisterous people, she has always been the quiet one – this generally led people to misunderstand her name as a pun for “timid.”

Her brother, Smitty, tried to tell her about Addergoole. He was hampered by first the geas, second by the fact that his experiences at the school were some of the mildest around, and third by their six-year age gap and his long absence from home during Timora’s formative years. She is left understanding that there is a family legacy relating to the school, and that there are animals to spend time with there.

(Click link for more).

Timora originally appeared in Fae-bane and Frying Pans, Etc..

And, today, if you would like to ask Timora any question, at any point up to the end of Frying Pans, Etc., feel free!

The first two question-and-answer sessions are still open as well:
46 to Go: Porter (LJ)
47 to go: Wylie (LJ)
