Yesterday, we cleaned out the old apartment and turned in our keys. Carpet shampooers are both awesome and scary (there was THAT much dirt in our rug? O_O)
That place is where we buried our Gatsby-cat last summer, so it was harder leaving it than most places. I said goodbye again, and got rather teary. He was a very good kitty. I will miss him forever.

We are pondering a wood stove for House, after fuel-oil sticker shock. The one we want will run us about $2000, but we’re thinking of putting in a smaller, cheaper one now, then moving that to the garage next year or the year after when we can afford the one we want. Fire is nice heat when you have oil as back-up.

Mmmm, mum and I once found one of the lovely glass-fronted ones for 800-1000, second hand via tag sale. Sadly, we couldn’t get a technician to install it where we wanted, or we would have it now.
‘fuel-oil sticker shock’? I’ve never had fuel oil and I live on another continent – I think I need a translation 🙂
Fuel oil is what fuels out boiler, and it’s currently at over $3.85/gallon. I figure it’s going to be maybe $200-$400/month for heat Our last apartment had free heat.

Firewood is cheaper for BTU’s
mmm, i must say, i am jealous of my neighbor’s woodstove [and woodstove engineered house]. ours is NOT designed [at all] with a woodstove in mind. instead we have an oil furnace electrically blown about [except, only in parts of the house…none to the south facing sun hall or our bedroom *shiver* and the same amount goes to the huge living room and kitchen as goes to the tiny bathroom and study *hiss*]. we paid 2000 last year for oil [not counting the electric bill] to heat the house [mind you, some rooms were below 50 and some at 60, its not like we kept it WARM]. my neighbors, while im not 100% sure of their money expenses, paid much less for their wood stoves [they have two, as their house is built around two separate hearth plans(mostly they just kept one side warm all the time)] and their house was significantly warmer. we just spent more than i’d expected for new windows and hopefully that will help. nonetheless, i recommend wood stoves.
We’re replacing windows one at a time – first, the bedroom window. I love wood stove heat – just not the work. It’s like doing dishes – a childhood chore I wish I could leave behind.
