Giraffe Call Open: Siblings

Today’s Giraffe Theme is Siblings

The call for prompts is now OPEN!

I am now taking prompts on the themes of “Siblings:” having them, not having them, hating them, loving them, becoming them…

Leave one or many prompts, and I will write (over the next month) at least one microfic (150-500 words) to each prompter (prompts may be combined)

Prompts can be related to one of my extant settings (See my landing page-landing page) or they can be for something completely different.

Prompting is free! But Donations are always welcome.

For each $5 you donate, I will write an additional 500 words to the prompt(s) of your choice.

If I get two new prompters or one new donator, I will write a setting piece (setting chosen by poll) explaining something about the prompts.

At $30 in donations, T. and I will get take-out.
Reached!

At $40 in donations, everyone who donated will get an additional microfic written to their prompts. I will choose 1 non-donater at random to receive an additional microfic as well.
Reached!

At $50, anyone who donated $7.50 or more will have a copy of “Alder by Post” mailed to them if they wish.
Reached!

For every $50 donated, I will do a one-hour livewrite on Etherpad or googledocs during the next month.

At $80, I will write two extra 500-word continuations – chosen by prompters picked by random number generator.

At $120, everyone who donated will get an additional (3rd) microfic written to their prompts. I will choose 2 more non-donaters at random to receive an additional microfic as well.

If we get to $120, I will take suggestions for further incentives!

For more information on Giraffe Calls, see the landing page.

Since the theme is “siblings,” my kid brother Eli will count the donations today. Yes, he’s a dog. 😉

Words
500 $5.00 USD
750 $7.50 USD
1000 $10.00 USD
1250 $12.50 USD
1500 $15.00 USD
1750 $17.50 USD
2000 $20.00 USD

I also take payment by Dwolla – send me a note if you’re interested.

Made an Icon, tomorrow’s Giraffe Topic set!

In related news:

I’ve been contemplating people to tell me what their favorite story of mine has been, with eventually putting together a curated e-book of Best of the Giraffe. Worth an extra prompt being written, perhaps, or an additional 100-200 words on a story. Thoughts?

#Lexember post iIne – Conlanging objects in the Cālenyan world – Posers and Fakes

This was going to be a post about colours!

And I have those, too:
kāt – red
lenal – orange
patō – yellow
tōtyō – green
dēdun – blue
bezhya – indigo
galō – purple
leten – black
telun – white
lēlē – grey

Then I realized that red-face (or face-red) is a reference to the war leader, for the paint they once used to mark themselves in battle.

kalō – face
kalōkāt – red-face, war-leader – this leads to kalokākab (big war leader) –> calenkat –> Cālenta (calenka?)
kalōlen – orange-face. This is a courtesan or a “fancy lady,” from the proto-Bitrani women the Cālenyena encountered who painted their face with an orangey-red cosmetic.

And, from the fact that both of these leave a yellow residue when hastily wiped off:

kalōpatō – Yellow-face, someone lying about what they are, a fake.

Which led me to
tezyu – goat-hair
lanut – braid

And lanutez goat-hair braid: someone who is pretending to be something they’re not, a poser.

And stealing the meme

From [personal profile] kate

Give me a ‘verse (mine, yours, or someone else’s) and at least one other thing (prompt, kink, pairing, color, whatever) and I will attempt to write you a one sentence fic.

If I’m not familiar with the fandom/’verse, I’ll ask you to go fish (pick another)

Lovely one-sentence story

[personal profile] kate is taking prompts for her one sentence fic meme. For my prompt, “Criminal Minds, Reid, bottle of beer.”, kate wrote the following fill:

“No, like this,” Morgan says, wrapping his lips around the bottle and taking the whole neck of it in his mouth.

Unplanned, a drabble of Boom

After Find Me a Boy and Are You Her?, between Year 40 & 41 of the Addergoole School

The drive home was long, silent, and uncomfortable.

Cya kept stealing glances over at the boy in the passenger’s seat. He wasn’t fighting. She had plans in place for fighting. He wasn’t scared. She knew what to do when they were scared. He wasn’t crying, he wasn’t yelling, he wasn’t asking questions.

If she went through her normal script, he might find a way to kill himself and convince himself it had been her plan. This was very irregular.

Finally, she had to ask. “You really thought I was a serial killer?”

He glanced over at her. He wasn’t exactly moping, but he was making the face her boys did, and now her grandkids, too, when they didn’t get what they wanted. “They said it was like that novel, that you took one student every year as some sort of tribute.”

“…And the school just let me waltz in and kidnap someone?”

“Well, they do, don’t they?”

“All right, they do. But that’s because they know what I do with them.” That didn’t sound right. This boy was throwing her off her game.

“They said the school was afraid of you. So they let you take the leftovers.” He looked down at his feet. “I sent the other guy home.”

“Someone else was waiting? To be killed?” Cya had never planned to be mistaken for a serial killer.

“He didn’t need it. I need it. I…”

“I’m not going to kill you.”

“I lost everything! And he made me promise not to end myself. You were my only hope!”

“I’m not going to kill you.” She was beginning to get a little exasperated. “And you are not allowed to accidentally kill yourself, or go looking for ways to make me want to kill you.”

“No?”

“No. Finally, something she had in her script. “You are not allowed to hurt or damage anything that belongs to me.”

It took him a minute to get it, to remember that he’d agreed to Belong to her.

“Oh…”

She really didn’t know what to do about this.

#Lexember post Eight – Conlanging objects in the Cālenyan world – Waste

Last night, I asked my spousal unit what everyday object I should cover next for Lexember.

“Urine,” said he.

So, today we have the crude words for urine and excrement, with vomit thrown in for good measure. These are the equivalent of “piss,” “shit,” and “puke;” because I have yet to figure out where the Cālenyana eventually get their “scientific” sorts of words. They don’t have Latin to pull from.

Back to the topic at… hand?

These are the noun forms; I’m not doing verbs right now.

dyen – piss
pyemen – shit
tyep – puke

I was asked yesterday where the pronunciation guide is – it’s here.

There’s an audioboo of my vowels here, and one of Cālenyan vocabulary here

Themes du Giraffe (et Fishie)

[personal profile] ysabetwordsmith has open in her journal a call for fishbowl themes.

Which led me to think about my upcoming Giraffe call, and those coming through 2013 – and realize I was running a bit dry on themes myself.

I sort of have “the future is now” as a theme for this coming Giraffe Call, but I don’t even know if I like that one, and I don’t have anything for the upcoming year.

So after you go give Ysabet some ideas, stop back and give me some?
